Great to meet you!

I’m Jay Ratia, MSW, LCSW, a licensed clinical social worker and therapist with more than 20 years of experience helping individuals navigate anxiety, stress, life transitions, relationships, and emotional challenges. I earned my BSW from Seton Hall University and my MSW from Rutgers University, and I use evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I believe you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to work alongside you to better understand your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors while developing practical tools to create meaningful change. My goal is to provide a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you can feel understood, build on your strengths, and take greater control of your mental health and your life.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is collaborative, practical, and focused on helping you better understand the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I use evidence-based approaches such as CBT, incorporating cognitive restructuring, mindfulness, emotional regulation, and reality testing to help you develop healthier ways of responding to life’s challenges. I believe you are the expert on your own life, so I don’t see my role as “fixing” you—I see it as partnering with you, offering guidance, perspective, and tools that fit your individual goals and strengths. Together, we’ll create a personalized approach that helps you build confidence, manage challenges more effectively, and take control of your own revolution.

What you can expect from me

During our first session, my goal is to create a comfortable, welcoming, and judgment-free environment where you can feel heard and understood. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, what you would like to change or improve, and the challenges you’re currently experiencing. I’ll learn about your strengths, experiences, and goals while we begin identifying patterns in your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that may be getting in the way of the life you want. Most importantly, you won’t be expected to have everything figured out—we’ll work together to develop a personalized plan and take the first steps toward meaningful change.
