Great to meet you!

Welcome. I’m glad you’re considering finding help for the challenge you’re facing. Counseling has been helpful to me in the past. Getting started leaves me feeling nervous until I get to know the person I’m talking with. A few things about me. I’m recently retired. I spent 39 years as a therapist and supervisor. In my career I’ve helped people with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, spiritual and work problems. I’m also ordained and served as a pastoral counselor. I’m here at Headway.co to see if a small private practice works for me. Out of the office I’ve been a mountaineer, fly caster and student of several martial arts. My favorite is Aikido. I’ve begun my 12th year of Aikido training.

My approach to therapy

Most of the people I’ve helped have the tools, strengths and experiences they need to feel better within them. My role is to help them discover these and walk with them while they practice using them. This sounds easier than it is and it takes longer with some people than others. Making life changes can feel scary. Change can affect things in unpredictable ways. It can be painful. It often feels easier to live in misery than make changes. You have to be ready to make that effort and willing to stick with it.

What you can expect from me

Our first conversation will be a free 15 minute phone consultation. I will try to get a sense of the challenge you’re facing and whether I think I can help or not. I invite you to use that time to see if you feel I am a good fit for you. If we schedule a session I may ask you to try an experiment in the time between that first call and our first session.

In our first session I will ask a bunch of questions—including how the experiment went—to get a better sense of what’s going on. I hope you will ask me questions too. I may seem a bit distracted filling in forms your insurance requires. In this meeting we will decide what each of us will do about the challenge. If there’s time we’ll put that into a formal plan, or map, for how counseling will go from there. We will follow this plan and refer to it often.

I’m able to bill many popular insurances and can negotiate direct payment if you prefer. Right now my practice is limited to telehealth. The best way to reach me is by doing a provider name search at Headway.co

I look forward to talking with you.

Jeff
