Great to meet you!

Welcome! My name is Jen McDowell, and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Board-Certified Behavior Analyst. I started my career working with children and families and have spent the last 6 years specializing in working with individuals healing from complex trauma, attachment wounds, and narcissistic or emotionally abusive relationships.

My approach to therapy

My approach is client centered, trauma-informed, and individualized to each person. I draw from attachment theory, early childhood experiences, family systems, behavioral approaches, EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic interventions and Polyvagal theory. Together, we explore not only what has happened in your life, but how those experiences may continue to influence relationships, emotions, beliefs about yourself, and nervous system today.

What you can expect from me

I believe meaningful therapy begins with connection. My therapeutic style is warm, inquisitive, and empowering and I believe the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in the healing process. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, seen, and understood while gaining a deeper understanding of yourself and the experiences that shaped you. We will start this process on our first session-discussing what brings you to therapy, what you've been experiencing, and what you hope might feel different in your life. This is a collaborative session where you are welcome to ask me questions about me, my therapeutic approach, or what our work together might look like. We'll begin discussing your goals and develop an individualized direction for therapy based on your needs.
