Great to meet you!

Dr. Jennifer (me) is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) in Alabama, an LPC in Georgia, and an LMHC in Delaware. I provide office counseling in the Homewood, Alabama area. I provide telehealth services for all three states. I have over 16 years of experience as a counselor working in an array of settings (residential, in-home, agency, jails, and outpatient). I have realized that she likes outpatient private practice the best because she can really do great work with clients to assist them in becoming the best version of themselves. I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults. I have worked with clients aged four and up, from all different backgrounds, races, genders, cultural backgrounds, socioeconomic backgrounds, etc. I have had experience working with clients who are LGBTIAQ+, with gender issues, clients who have personality disorders, mood disorders, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, neurodivergence, parenting issues, grief and loss, phase of life issues, and many other topics.

I have completed her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Walden University. My dissertation topic is on the utilization of emotional support animals (ESA) in counseling. I have expertise in the utilization of ESAs as a therapeutic intervention in treatment.

I was born in New Jersey, but have lived in Alabama the majority of my life. Throughout her childhood, she moved from the East Coast to North Alabama. I currently live in the Birmingham area with my dog Ladybug. I have a close relationship with her mother, sisters, niece, and nephews. When I am not working, she enjoys traveling, maintaining positive self-care activities, watching reality TV, and doing arts/crafts.

My approach to therapy

Dr. Jennifer (me) provides an individualized approach to counseling services. Each client presents with different issues, so it is important that we utilize an individualized approach to counseling that is best suited to you. My counseling theoretical orientation aligns with CBT with an existential framework. I work with clients to get them to a stable mind frame and outlook, and then we work to heal the core beliefs and values that may be causing irrational thinking patterns and behaviors. This is a process that can be very beneficial to long-term healing. I also have experience using ACT, REBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, and other beneficial interventions to meet the needs of clients. We will work together to gain a beneficial treatment plan that aligns with your goals, needs, and long-term outcomes.

What you can expect from me

During the first counseling session, we will work together to develop our therapeutic relationship. We will work to gain rapport and develop an alliance that will allow you to feel better about opening up and being transparent during the treatment process. We will also develop a plan for your course of treatment and establish a plan to assist you in achieving your goals and needs and in becoming the best version of yourself.
