Great to meet you!

Welcome! My name is Jennifer, and I am the founder of Strides for Empowerment. While I have been practicing within the clinical mental health field for the past three years, my journey within the human services and the helping field spans over 21 years. I am dedicated to creating a warm, judgement-free space where you feel heard.

Education & Background

I earned my Master of Arts (MA) in counseling from Oakland University. Beyond traditional therapy setting I have extensive background in working with mandated clients. I also hold a nationally renowned certificate from the National Anger Management Association (NAMA) as a Certified Parent Teacher Specialist.

Clinical Specialties

Throughout my career, I have developed deep expertise in helping individuals navigate complex life challenges.

My core areas of specialty include:

Trauma, anxiety and stress management, depression and mood support, substance use and addiction recovery and co-occurring disorders (meaning mental health and substance use simultaneously).

Whether you are looking to heal from past trauma, manage daily anxiety, or navigate a difficult life transition, we will work together at your own pace to build the tools you need one stride at a time. I look forward to connecting with you.

My approach to therapy

My therapeutic Approach

I believe therapy is a not a one-size fits all experience. Your unique life story requires a tailored approach. I primarily draw from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy and Motivational Interviewing (MI). However, I fluidly integrate other evidence-based modalities depending on your specific needs, goals, and comfort level. My objective is to create a collaborative, judgement-free space where you feel truly heard, valued, and empowered to make meaningful changes.

Whether you are experiencing deep-rooted trauma, managing day-to-day anxiety, of navigating integrated care for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, we will collaborate to build practical, sustainable tools for lasting healing and growth.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is entirely focused on establishing a foundation of safety, trust and comfort. I understand that starting therapy can sometimes feel overwhelming and most first time clients say "I just do not know where to start." We will slowly pick away at what is going on. There is no rush - remember the Ark wasn't built in a day. We begin by just getting to know each other, where you can ask me questions as I ask you questions. Once we both realize that we are a good fit, we will scratch the surface of what brought you into counseling. My hope is to create a safe and open space for you to be yourself. When you leave your first session with me I want you feel deeply respected, truly heard, and equipped with a sense of clarity, direction, and hope for the path ahead.
