Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm John-Lee, I'm a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) with over 5,000 hours of clinical experience and a solo practice that you can visit at www.rootednamucounseling.com. But I didn't start here, I have also come through the same door, as a client first, and then later as a therapist. So I am someone who knows what good therapy can do. It informs empathic, thoughtful approach and the belief that therapy can help you recover from trauma, improve your mood, and restore health in relationships. I offer personal dedicated 1-on-1 mental health support as a culturally and trauma-informed therapist. My view is that deep lasting growth comes from addressing underlying root causes, meaning that in working together we explore unprocessed emotions and experiences, face what we've been avoiding, and move toward shame anger and pain that binds us. I'd love to support you on your journey toward emotional, relational, and mental wellness.

My approach to therapy

I take a psychodynamic, attachment-focused, and Rogerian approach, integrating intensive trauma trainings in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and (EMDR). All that to say that I create a warm, empathic space where we work collaboratively and at your pace to process past experiences, build self-awareness, and strengthen emotional and relational wellbeing. I help clients understand the root causes behind their symptoms and coping patterns rather than just addressing surface-level behaviors.

What you can expect from me

  1. Start with a complimentary 20-minute consultation where we get to know each other and see if we're a good fit. Look at my website to get a feel for how I work. We'll talk through what's bringing you to therapy, your goals, and what you're hoping to get out of our work together. There's no pressure to share more than you're comfortable with. My goal in this initial meeting is to create a welcoming, non-judgmental space so you can decide, at your own pace, whether we're the right match to begin this journey together.
