Great to meet you!

My name is John Paul Kretkowski. I am a Mental Health Counselor, licensed in North Carolina and New York. I graduated with a Masters of Arts from Nyack College Alliance Graduate School of Counseling. My clinical experience includes various settings, such as mental health clinics, private practices, and inpatient psychiatric hospitals.

My specialty is working with clients who have a history of trauma. Using my clinical expertise and integrating Christian beliefs and practices (if you are comfortable with it), I will work hand in hand with you to help you overcome any obstacles you may be facing. I am passionate about helping my clients find healing and peace.

Some of my personal interests include reading and listening to anything mental health related, The Lord of the Rings, and my Bible. I also enjoy exercising and spending time with my wife and two cats.

My approach to therapy

My main goal is to listen to you; allowing you to feel safe, heard, and comfortable, to walk through whatever difficulties you may have. In addition to that, I strive to educate and equip you with tools and knowledge to navigate and manage your struggles. I welcome your feedback and input, that way we are collaboratively working towards achieving your goals. I believe therapy is not meant for a lifetime, instead, it is a time of temporary assistance to develop the insight and skills to then re-emerge into life independently.

During therapy, I will gently challenge your perspective and ways of thinking, encourage emotional exploration, and promote positive behaviors. Ultimately, helping you work towards self-confidence, self-sufficiency, and long lasting healthy change.

What you can expect from me

In my initial therapy session I like to give you an opportunity to share as much as you feel comfortable with. I know it can be difficult to open up to someone new and that is why we take things at your pace. I welcome and encourage you to give therapy with me a try but there is no pressure to continue if you don’t feel it is the right fit. Your comfort and confidence are the goal!
