Great to meet you!

I hold a Master’s and a Doctorate in Social Work and am currently licensed as a clinical social worker in Maryland and the District of Columbia. With over a decade of experience, I have developed extensive expertise in working with individuals diagnosed with persistent mental illness, as well as those who are dually diagnosed. I am a passionate and dedicated social worker, committed to providing clinical services to populations with severe and persistent mental illness and co-occurring disorders. My practice includes providing support, advocating for patients, facilitating access to services, and conducting comprehensive intake and psychosocial assessments.

My approach to therapy

I possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills that enable me to assess and address complex mental health issues effectively. My comprehensive understanding of the DSM-IV-TR disorders, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, and co-occurring disorders, allows me to tailor interventions to meet the unique needs of each individual.

I am well-versed in a variety of therapeutic approaches. For instance, I use Person-Centered Therapy to create an empathetic, nonjudgmental environment that encourages clients to explore their thoughts and feelings. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I help clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns, fostering healthier behaviors and coping mechanisms.

Additionally, I use Motivational Interviewing techniques to help clients find personal motivation for change, strengthening their commitment to therapeutic goals. With Cognitive Processing Therapy, I assist those dealing with trauma by facilitating their understanding of the impact of traumatic experiences on their thoughts and emotions. Lastly, I apply Solution-Focused Therapy to highlight clients' strengths and resources, guiding them to envision and work towards their desired outcomes. This diverse skill set allows me to provide holistic and individualized care to those I serve.

What you can expect from me

During the initial therapy session, clients can expect an opportunity to share their personal story and experiences in a safe, supportive environment. This session is designed to help them feel heard and understood, which is a crucial part of the therapeutic process. Clients will also gain a clearer understanding of how therapy works, the methods we will use, and what they can expect moving forward.

It's normal for many clients to feel anxious before their first session, as they may be uncertain about what to discuss or how much to open up. In this initial meeting, there is no pressure to share everything at once; instead, the focus is on building trust and rapport. Clients are encouraged to share at their own pace and bring up topics that feel most relevant to them. This collaborative approach helps to lay the foundation for effective therapy and ensures that clients feel supported throughout their journey.
