Great to meet you!

I am a Licensed Therapist (LMHC) in the state of Hawaii. I was born and raised on the island of O'ahu. As a culturally sensitive therapist, I specialize in helping individuals and families navigate a variety of mental health challenges. My approach is grounded in evidence-based practices, as I also incorporate traditional Hawaiian culture and values to provide holistic and culturally relevant care. I'm committed to empowering my clients to develop the skills and resilience they need to overcome challenges and lead fulfilling lives.

My focus

With a broad range of experience, I specialize in treating a variety of mental health concerns, including: Substance Abuse: Assisting individuals in overcoming addiction and developing healthy coping mechanisms. At-Risk Youth: Providing support and guidance to young people facing challenges such as academic difficulties, peer pressure, or family instability. Foster Care and Adoption: Addressing the unique emotional needs of children and families involved in the foster care and adoption process. Family Dynamics: Helping families navigate changes, improve communication, and resolve conflicts. Relationship Issues: Supporting individuals and couples in strengthening their relationships and addressing communication difficulties. Daily Stressors: Assisting clients in managing stress, anxiety, and other common mental health concerns.

My communication style

I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental, and supportive space for my clients. I believe that a calm and comfortable atmosphere is essential for fostering open communication and trust. I aim to establish a therapeutic relationship based on mutual respect, empathy, and understanding. When working with me, you can expect a warm and welcoming environment where you feel heard, understood, and valued. I will provide you with the support and guidance you need to explore your thoughts and feelings and work towards your goals.

My approach to therapy

My approach is client centered and culturally sensitive, and I am committed to creating a safe and inclusive space for all. My approach is grounded in evidence-based practices, including: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Helps clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns and develop healthier coping strategies. Family-Focused Therapy (FFT): Emphasizes the importance of family relationships and communication in promoting mental health and well-being. Motivational Interviewing (MI): A client-centered approach that helps individuals explore their motivations for change and develop a plan to achieve their goals. Structural Family Therapy (SFT): Focuses on the structure and dynamics of family systems, aiming to improve communication, boundaries, and roles. Strategic Family Therapy (SFT): Emphasizes problem-solving and solution-focused techniques, helping families develop new ways of interacting. Indigenous Healing Practices: Incorporating traditional Hawaiian healing practices and can provide a culturally relevant and supportive framework for therapy. Narrative Therapy: Helps clients construct new, more empowering narratives about their lives, drawing on their cultural experiences and values. Contingency Management: Utilizes rewards and consequences to reinforce positive behaviors and reduce substance use. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Substance Abuse: Specifically tailored to address cognitive distortions and behavioral patterns related to substance use. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Focuses on mindfulness, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance, which can be helpful for individuals struggling with substance abuse and other mental health issues.

What you can expect from me

My first session with you

During our first session, we'll take the time to get to know each other and discuss your goals for therapy. I'll ask you about your background, the challenges you're facing, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. I'll also explain my approach to therapy and answer any questions you may have. We'll work together to establish a comfortable and safe therapeutic environment where you feel free to share your thoughts and feelings. The first session is an opportunity for us to see if we're a good fit. I'll provide you with information about the therapeutic process and answer any questions you may have.

My goals for you

I believe in a collaborative goal-setting process that aligns with my clients' individual needs and cultural values. Together, we work to: Identify Client Goals: We start by openly discussing the client's goals and expectations for therapy. This includes exploring both short-term and long-term objectives. Consider Cultural Context: I take into account the client's cultural background and values to ensure that our goals are culturally relevant and meaningful. Set SMART Goals: We work together to establish goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound (SMART). This helps us stay focused and track progress effectively. Regularly Review and Adjust: We revisit our goals throughout the therapeutic process to ensure they remain aligned with the client's changing needs and circumstances. This allows for flexibility and adaptability. By following this approach, I aim to create a supportive and empowering environment where clients feel motivated and invested in their therapeutic journey
