Great to meet you!

Welcome! My name is Karen and I am glad that you are here. I am passionate about creating a safe, welcoming and supportive space where clients feel comfortable being themselves without judgment. I believe that every person’s experiences and needs are unique, which is why I take an individualized approach to therapy and tailor treatment using evidence-based practices that best fit each client.

I support individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, emotional overwhelm, and life transitions, while also helping clients build coping skills, confidence, and emotional resilience. I have additionally experience working closely with parents by providing guidance and support surrounding children’s mental health, emotional development, behavioral concerns, and parenting challenges. For new parents, I provide support as they navigate the changes, stressors and adjustments that can come with parenthood.

My goal is to help clients feel heard, understood, supported, and empowered throughout their healing journey. I cannot wait to meet you!

My approach to therapy

Growing up in a rural and small Northern community I was raised with a sense of awareness for the importance of community and supporting one another. This lead me to a career in social work where my skills of listening, empathy and support are utilized everyday to support others. I pride myself on offering practical support, education, and guidance along every step of your journey. Meaningful therapy begins with feeling genuinely heard and understood and I strive to build authentic connections with my clients in a nonjudgmental environment. I am lively, yet down to earth and have a positive encouraging personality.

I have years of experience with cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, emotion focused therapy, play/art therapy, mindfulness, and trauma focused modalities.

What you can expect from me

Starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially if it is your first time in therapy. The first session is designed to help create a comfortable, supportive space where we can begin getting to know one another and discuss what brings you to therapy.

During the initial session, we will talk about your current concerns, personal history, goals for therapy and any challenges you may be experiencing. This may include discussing areas such as your emotions, habits/behaviors, relationships, life style or hobbies. Clients are welcome to share at their own pace; there is never pressure to discuss anything before they feel ready or have the coping skills to do so.

This session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions, learn more about the therapy process, and discuss what your needs from therapy are, including what your expectations and needs from me as your therapist are. Together, we will begin identifying goals and creating a plan tailored specifically to you using evidence-based practices and individualized support.

Most importantly, the first session is about building a safe, nonjudgmental, and collaborative environment where you feel heard, supported, and comfortable moving forward at your own pace.
