Great to meet you!

Dr. Kayla April, LCSW

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Florida and Minnesota, dedicated to supporting teens, young adults, and older adults on their mental health journeys. With a background in hospice, hospital settings, schools, the criminal justice system, and outpatient mental health, I bring a well-rounded perspective to client care.

I earned my MSW from Florida State University, my Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from the University of Florida, and my Doctorate in Social Work from Simmons University.

My approach to therapy

My practice is rooted in a strengths-based approach, and I believe in making clients active participants in their treatment. I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and specialize in working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, anger, end-of-life concerns, school-related challenges, and other mood disorders.

I believe in the power of change, and I strive to meet each client where they are—with empathy, support, and a personalized path forward.

What you can expect from me

Clients working with you can expect to take away:

  1. A Strong Therapeutic Relationship They’ll feel heard, respected, and supported in a safe, nonjudgmental space where trust and collaboration are prioritized.
  2. Practical Tools & Coping Strategies Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and mindfulness techniques, clients will gain actionable tools to manage anxiety, depression, anger, and other mood-related challenges.
  3. Increased Self-Awareness Sessions will help clients explore the connections between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors—empowering them to make meaningful changes.
  4. Goal-Oriented Progress With a treatment plan tailored to their unique needs, clients will be active participants in setting and reaching their goals.
  5. Empowerment Through Strengths-Based Work Clients will learn to identify and use their own strengths as a foundation for healing, growth, and navigating life’s challenges.
  6. Support for Life Transitions Whether facing school stress, life changes, end-of-life concerns, or justice system involvement, clients will gain clarity, confidence, and emotional support.
