Our first session is entirely about taking the pressure off. Walking into a therapy space can feel vulnerable or even a bit intimidating, so our main priority is to let you settle in, get comfortable, and ensure you feel completely safe and heard.
Here is exactly what we will cover during our initial 50 minutes together:
- Human Connection First: Before we dive into any paperwork or history, we’ll take a few moments to connect as human beings. We'll chat about how it feels to be starting therapy and make sure you feel at ease in our shared virtual or physical space.
- The Big Picture: I’ll invite you to share—at whatever pace feels comfortable to you—what brought you to therapy at this specific moment in your life. You only have to share what you are ready to share; there is no pressure to "fix" everything on day one.
- Logistics & Boundaries: We will briefly review the nuts and bolts of therapy, including confidentiality, what our regular sessions will look like, and any questions you have about the process.
- Collaborative Goal Setting: Towards the end of our time, we’ll start sketching out a rough map of what healing and progress look like for you. We will identify your primary goals so that our future work feels focused, intentional, and deeply relevant to your needs.
Ultimately, you can expect to leave your first session feeling lighter, with a clearer understanding of how we will work together, and hopefully, a sense of relief that you don't have to carry it all by yourself anymore.
