Great to meet you!

None of us come out of childhood without some cuts and bruises. Sometimes physical, but more oftentimes emotional. For many, these emotional wounds are still tender, open, lightly dressed with a bandage, forgotten, or even neglected. So when these emotions get touched we find ourselves reacting in ways that aren’t in line with the kind of person we want to be.

I'm an Emotion-Focused trained therapist through ICEEFT. I've been practicing for over half a decade, with my master's degree from Western Michigan University, I generally work with adult individuals and couples.

My approach to therapy

I am, at my core, an Emotion-Focused Therapist. I utilize some aspects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Existential-Humanistic Therapy, but focus mostly on emotions and attachment.

Most of my approach to therapy is framed around emotions because they underpin so many of our experiences. Many of our mental health issues relate to difficulties with emotional processing, whether it's from lack of warmth and regard from others, or neglect and avoidance within ourselves, we all need to feel heard and understood.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, we'll collaboratively establish goals to guide our work together. From there I usually allow clients to guide the session following one of our established goals, and provide psycho-education, on if it's relevant or helpful.

Ultimately, I'm in the passenger seat with clients in the driver seat. You tell me where you'd like to go, and I'll pull out the map and help us get there.
