Great to meet you!

Hello, I’m Kim McKinnie, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas. After 22 years as a school counselor, I retired but soon realized my passion for supporting others was still strong. I now work with teens and adults navigating anxiety, work stress, and life transitions—helping them find calm, confidence, and direction in times of change.

My approach to therapy

My approach is warm, down-to-earth, and collaborative. I believe therapy should feel like a safe, supportive space where you don’t have to have it all figured out—because that’s what we’ll work on together. I use CBT, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and mindfulness to help you manage stress, ease anxiety, and build practical tools you can use right away. Between sessions, I’ll often suggest simple practices or “homework” to help you apply what we talk about—because that’s where real change takes root.

What you can expect from me

In your first session, we’ll take a relaxed, comfortable approach to get to know each other. You can share your background and what’s brought you to therapy so I can understand where you’re coming from. This time is all about connection, understanding, and setting the stage for our work together.
