Great to meet you!

Hey there! I'm Kristen and I'm so glad you're here! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor ( LPC in Virginia and LCMHC in North Carolina) who believes therapy shouldn't feel stiff or clinical to be effective. My professional background spans psychiatric hospitals, schools, and community mental health agencies which means I've had the privilege of supporting folks across many different seasons, settings and stages of life. That range has shaped how I show up in the therapy space: flexible, curious, and never boxed into one way of doing things.

I received my education in both School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling from North Carolina Central University [Eagle Prideeee!]

My approach to therapy

My clinical approach is eclectic by design. I draw from evidence-based practices including CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and expressive techniques to fit you. I do not believe in one-size-fits-all molding or cookie cutting [unless actual cookies are present :).] I bring a genuine sense of art, humor, and personality to our sessions because sometimes the most honest breakthroughs happen when there's room to laugh, get creative, or simply exist without pretense.

I have specialized experience working with trauma, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and the unique challenges that come with navigating co-occurring diagnoses. I also bring a culturally responsive lens to my work, with specific experience supporting LGBTQIA+ clients and clients navigating racial identity and related concerns. Whether you're processing something heavy or just trying to figure out who you are outside of it all, I will meet you right where you are.

Above all, our space is safe, non-judgmental, and absent of any pressure to perform, just room to be exactly who you are. I'm honored and look forward to walking alongside you on this journey.

What you can expect from me

Our first session is all about getting to know each other without any scripts or pressure. We'll talk through what's bringing you in, and together we'll shape some initial goals as a starting compass which we will revisit as we go. Expect an environment that feels more like a safe conversation than a clinical appointment: real, human, and occasionally funny. You don't need to have it all figured out, you just have to show up.
