Great to meet you!

I’m Kylyn Kapitan, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. My background includes extensive experience in mental health, substance use treatment, nursing leadership, and caring for individuals with complex behavioral and medical needs.

I earned my Doctor of Nursing Practice with a specialization in psychiatric mental health and have worked with adolescents, adults, and older adults across a variety of treatment settings. My clinical experience includes psychiatric evaluation, medication management, substance use disorders, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, ADHD, trauma-related concerns, and co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions.

I believe mental health care works best when clients feel heard, respected, and actively involved in their treatment. My goal is to create a space where you can be honest about what is working, what isn’t, and what you actually want from treatment—without judgment.

My approach to therapy

My approach is collaborative, practical, and individualized. I don’t believe there is one “right” treatment plan that works for everyone, and I want clients to understand the reasoning behind their care rather than simply being told what to do.

Medication can be an important tool, but it is only one part of mental health treatment. I consider the whole picture—including symptoms, physical health, sleep, relationships, stress, substance use, lifestyle, previous treatment experiences, and what matters most to you.

I also believe strongly in shared decision-making. I will provide education, discuss options, explain potential benefits and risks, and make recommendations, but you should have a voice in decisions about your own care. My goal is to help you find a treatment plan that is both clinically appropriate and realistic for your life.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is an opportunity for me to understand you as a person—not just a list of symptoms or diagnoses. We’ll talk about what brought you in, what you’re struggling with now, your mental and physical health history, medications, previous treatment experiences, and what you hope will be different with treatment.

I may ask a lot of questions during the first visit because I want to understand the full picture before making recommendations. You’ll also have time to ask questions, bring up concerns, and tell me about treatments that have or haven’t worked for you in the past.

By the end of the visit, we’ll discuss my initial impressions and possible next steps together. You should leave understanding the plan, why we’re considering it, and what to expect moving forward. I don’t expect you to have everything figured out before you come in—that’s part of what we’ll work on together.
