Great to meet you!

Lalanea (pronounced Luh-Lane-Yah) has worked for years in case management, education, and foster care. Lalanea graduated from Wichita State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Women’s Studies and with a Master of Social Work. Between those degrees, she earned a Master of Public Affairs with a Nonprofit Concentration from UNC Greensboro. Lalanea is a North Carolina board-certified licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and a Kansas board-certified licensed specialist clinical social worker (LSCSW). Lalanea is located in Kansas and is entirely offering telehealth appointments; however, NC is her other home.

My approach to therapy

Lalanea uses dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), solution-focused brief therapy, and person-centered therapy. She is a trailblazer in marrying the two types of intervention. She works with ages 16 to 75, with a focus on women, sex and sexuality, ADHD, emotion dysregulation, addiction, depression, and anxiety. She completed her practicum with Scott Spradlin in Wichita, KS, author of Don’t Let Your Emotions Run Your Life: How Dialectical Therapy Can Put You in Control, and who completed DBT intensive training in Seattle, WA with Marsha Linehan and Linda Dimeff in 2000.

What you can expect from me

Lalanea is a Third Wave therapist. Third wave therapies prioritize the holistic promotion of psychological and behavioral processes associated with health and well-being over the reduction or elimination of psychological and emotional symptoms, although that typically is a “side-benefit.” Lalanea believes in authenticity, vulnerability, humor, and honest connection in all things. She also believes that clients are the experts of their own lives and that they deserve to have a life worth living. Lalanea has an important goal to never let a client feel as thought they wasted an hour.
