Great to meet you!

I am a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS), Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS), North Carolina Problem Gambling Provider, Certified Domestic Violence Instructor, and Certified Mental Health First-Aid Provider. I hold a Doctorate of Ministry and a Master of Divinity from Hood Theological Seminary, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Shaw University. I am also an Ordained Elder in the Unified Freewill Baptist Church and currently serve as a Chaplain at Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County.

I am the owner and founder of Above and Not Beneath Counseling Services (AANB), where I specialize in substance use disorders, mental health, anger management, crisis intervention, domestic violence, gambling addiction, grief and bereavement, pastoral care, and motivational interviewing. My 2019 dissertation focused specifically on the barriers that prevent clergy struggling with addiction from seeking treatment — an area I am deeply passionate about. My work is rooted in the belief that every person has the capacity to grow, heal, and make sustaining life decisions.

My approach to therapy

My approach is holistic, strengths-based, and evidence-based. I draw on a range of modalities — including motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral techniques, and pastoral counseling — to meet each client where they are. I believe healing happens when people are empowered with the right knowledge, tools, and support, so I focus on equipping clients to navigate life's challenges practically and purposefully. Faith and spirituality are available as part of the therapeutic process for those who find them meaningful, but my practice is inclusive and welcoming to all backgrounds.

What you can expect from me

The first session focuses on connection and clarity. I will take time to listen to your story, understand what brings you in, and learn about your goals. There is no pressure — this is a safe, nonjudgmental space for you to share as much or as little as you are comfortable with. Together, we will begin to outline a direction for our work that fits your unique needs and circumstances. My goal is for you to leave that first session feeling heard, respected, and hopeful about the path forward.
