Great to meet you!

Aloha mai. ʻO wau ʻo Leināʻala Launiu. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Hilo, Hawai'i, working with clients statewide via telehealth. I primarily work with adults, but I also work with adolescents, who are able to navigate their healing process via telehealth.

As a Native Hawaiian, I embarked on a journey to become a therapist because I sought to bridge the gap in mental health services for our lāhui. In addressing historical and generational trauma, I strongly believe in the necessity of having culturally relatable individuals to guide the processing of our most profound wounds. Driven by a deep sense of compassion and a desire to support my community, I found purpose in empowering individuals to navigate life's challenges with resilience and healing through a holistic approach.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is grounded in recognizing strengths, focusing on solutions, and prioritizing the client's perspective. In essence, I believe in your self-awareness and serve as a collaborative guide to affirm your strengths and determine the most effective path forward for you.

The therapeutic modalities that I often use are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Positive Psychology, and Client-Centered Therapy, while weaving in therapeutic interventions, which are strengths-based, and culture-focused.

Considering my therapeutic approach, I believe I am well-suited to support adults and older adolescents as they navigate life transitions and seek guidance on how to holomua (move forward) with enlightenment and purpose. I specialize in life transitions, job-related stress, grief, anxiety, and relationships. In therapy, I meet clients at their current stage of their journey, providing flexibility in selecting the therapeutic approach that aligns best with their individual needs.

What you can expect from me

Clients often say they feel truly seen, heard, and valued in our work together. I offer a grounded, intuitive presence that creates a safe space for deep reflection and honest conversation—without judgment. Whether you're navigating emotional blocks, seeking clarity, or learning to communicate with more alignment, I meet you with compassion, cultural wisdom, and practical insight. This is a space where your voice matters and your healing journey is honored.

In our initial session, clients can anticipate discussions surrounding their motivations for pursuing therapy and assess whether I am a compatible fit to accompany them on their therapeutic path. I focus on building rapport by engaging with my clients, fostering a safe and comfortable environment to kūkākūkā (talk story/reflect). If we find compatibility, we'll delve into the next steps and outline a plan together. However, if it seems we're not the right fit, I'll offer recommendations for other therapeutic styles or approaches, which may better align with your needs.
