Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Lizzy Thompson, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner providing care for children, adolescents, and adults. I have a special interest in ADHD, anxiety, stress/burnout, and supporting parents of neurodivergent children. Before becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I spent over a decade working as a registered nurse in a variety of healthcare settings, which strengthened my belief that mental health is deeply connected to overall wellbeing. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and nonjudgmental, with a focus on helping clients better understand themselves, reduce shame, and build sustainable tools for long-term wellness.

My approach to therapy

My approach to care is collaborative, compassionate, and individualized. I believe treatment works best when people feel heard, respected, and involved in decisions about their care. While medication can be an important tool, I also value education, behavioral strategies, lifestyle factors, nervous system regulation, and understanding the deeper patterns contributing to emotional distress.

My nursing background includes additional training and experience in holistic approaches to health and wellbeing, which continues to shape my interest in whole-person mental health care. I also have a strong interest in evidence-based complementary and functional approaches, including the ways that stress, sleep, nutrition, lifestyle, and physical health can impact emotional wellbeing. I especially enjoy helping clients better understand themselves, reduce shame, and build sustainable tools that support long-term wellness.

I strive to create a supportive, affirming, and nonjudgmental environment where people of all backgrounds and identities — including LGBTQIA+ individuals and people of color — feel heard, respected, and safe seeking care.

What you can expect from me

During our first session, my primary goal is to get to know you as a whole person — not just a list of symptoms or diagnoses. We’ll talk about what’s bringing you in, your current challenges, relevant history, strengths, goals, and any questions or concerns you may have about treatment.

I understand that reaching out for mental health care can feel vulnerable or even overwhelming, especially if you’ve had difficult experiences in healthcare before. I strive to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where you feel comfortable being honest about what you’re experiencing.

Together, we’ll begin exploring patterns that may be contributing to your symptoms and discuss potential treatment options that fit your individual needs and values. This may include medication, behavioral strategies, lifestyle factors, coping tools, therapy recommendations, or a combination of approaches. My style is collaborative and educational — I want clients to feel informed, involved, and empowered in their care.

You do not need to have everything figured out before coming in. The first session is simply a starting point, and we will work together to build a plan that feels manageable and supportive.
