Great to meet you!

I’m Mackie Johnson, LCSW, LCAS, CCS. I’ve worked in mental health and substance use treatment for more than 30 years. I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist, and Certified Clinical Supervisor. I focus on addictions; alcohol and drug use/misuse, with both adolescents and adults, depression, anxiety (generalized anxiety and panic attacks), anger reduction and emotion regulation, life transitions, job stress, and job loss, relationship stress; support with being a husband and dad, and chronic pain and medical conditions.

My approach to therapy

My approach is nonjudgmental, direct, and supportive. My goal is to make a challenging process feel as clear and straightforward as possible—and to create space for a few lighter moments along the way to reduce stress and help you stay engaged. My primary approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), Solution-Focused Therapy, Family Systems, and grounding and awareness-based exercises.

What you can expect from me

Your first therapy session is designed to help you feel comfortable and begin building a clear understanding of what you’re going through. During this session, I’ll ask questions and complete an assessment to gain a comprehensive picture of your experiences, challenges, and current circumstances. I’ll also provide information about how therapy works so you know what to expect moving forward.

My goal is for you to leave the session feeling reassured that your experiences are valid and that there is a meaningful path toward relief and resolution. By the end of our time together, we’ll collaborate on a treatment plan to guide our work in future sessions.
