Great to meet you!

I’m Marna, a compassionate Licensed Professional Counselor with five years of experience in private practice. My journey into therapy began as a former educator, where I honed my skills in communication, establishing rapport, interaction, and engagement. As a former military spouse for 20 years and a former State Department employee, I had the unique opportunity to live overseas, which enriched my understanding of diverse cultures and the challenges of transitions. This experience informs my work with individuals navigating life changes and adapting to new environments. My work with multicultural and diverse populations has deepened my empathy and connectedness, allowing me to build meaningful relationships with those I work with.

My approach to therapy

I believe that therapy is a collaborative journey where we work together to uncover strengths, develop resilience, and foster meaningful change. My approach integrates evidence-based practices, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Therapy, and trauma informed tailored to meet your unique needs and goals. My professional focus includes supporting young adults in their 20s and 30s facing social challenges due to the pandemic, life transitions related to military and foreign service, relationship difficulties, grief and acute loneliness. I am proficient in addressing issues such as religious and childhood trauma, OCD, depression, and other life transitions.

I hold a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and Rehabilitation Counseling and am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) licensed in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, my primary goal is to create a warm, calm, and non-judgmental environment where you feel comfortable sharing your story at your own pace. I focus on building a strong therapeutic rapport, getting to know who you are, and understanding what brought you in. We’ll talk about your current concerns, any relevant background or history, and what you hope to gain from therapy.
