Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Mary. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a master’s degree from Boston University, which included a clinical focus. I have extensive experience supporting individuals and families through some of life’s most difficult and meaningful moments.

Much of my professional background has been in hospice and end-of-life care, where I’ve worked closely with patients, caregivers, families, and healthcare professionals navigating grief, serious illness, anticipatory loss, caregiver stress, and major life transitions.

My approach to therapy

I'm not here to tell you the "proper way" to grieve whatever life has thrown at you, or what it might be taking away. I'm here to listen, to validate, and to reflect with you as you discover your own capacity to heal, cope, and find meaning in what has happened. We can talk together about what healing means to you.

Grief is messy, and I wish there were something I could say the day we meet that would simply take the pain away. There isn't. Grief isn't something we move through in neat stages until one day we've "fixed it." But we can learn to carry what has happened differently, make room for both grief and living, and find ways to move forward without leaving behind the person or life we loved.

I'll support you in that process using evidence-based therapeutic approaches tailored to you and your needs. You can smile. You can live. You can laugh. You can love. None of those things erase your grief or diminish what you've lost.

Whether you are living with a terminal illness, someone important to you is seriously ill, or someone you love has died, I would be honored to work with you.

What you can expect from me

The first day, we'll spend some time talking about what's going on in your life right now, similar things you may have experienced in the past, what's working, and what's not. I'll ask questions to help me understand you and what brought you to therapy, but you won't be expected to tell me everything all at once.

We'll also talk about what you hope to get from therapy and identify realistic, doable steps that can help you get there. Together, we'll begin developing a plan for our work that reflects your needs, your strengths, and what matters most to you.

Sometimes people say the first therapy session is the first step in your journey. I think sometimes it feels a little more like looking at the map together though, and figuring out where you are, where you'd like to go, and which direction might help you get there.
