Great to meet you!

My name is Mary McMillian Minor. I have been a school counselor and a mental health counselor for forty years. I also worked as a special-education teacher for 20 years, helping me understand students with disabilities and parents navigating the available service for their children. My passion is helping individuals navigate the challenges of life. I instill my clients with the superpower of Resilience.

My approach to therapy

In my practice, I utilize a cognitive behavioral approach. In essence, I feel that what a person thinks will influence their behavior. If maladaptive thought processes are altered and negative thoughts confronted then healing and positive behavioral change will occur.

What you can expect from me

Establishing a warm, nonjudgmental space right from the start is a wonderful way to build a rapport of trust and safety. Active listening during the sharing of their story suggests to the client that I am empathic to their plight which will lower their anxiety in presenting information. At the end of the first session, I want clients to feel a sense of hope and empowerment.
