Great to meet you!

Fit in everywhere and nowhere at the same time? I get it. I help diverse women who juggle multiple cultural identities heal. Maybe you’re the child of immigrants, multiracial or a racially ambiguous chameleon, an expat, “third culture kid”, bilingual (or sad you lost your parent’s language), feel culturally displaced, part of a religious minority, or just don’t quite fit into any one box. Hi - I'm Maryam, a clinical social worker who helps "outside the box" multicultural women foster radically new ways of relating to themselves, their families, and their histories. My clinical areas of focus include intergenerational trauma, early childhood sexual abuse, attachment wounding, OCD, grief, neurodivergence, chronic illness, perfectionism, and complex cultural or religious identities.

My approach to therapy

I practice from a stance of epistemic humility, meaning I strive to release expert-hood and flatten power dynamics in the therapeutic relationship. My style is collaborative, warm, and direct, with a healthy dose of humor. I will validate what is hard without treating you as fragile, and I will respectfully name patterns that may be keeping you stuck. Together, we will understand the patterns, roles, and ways of adapting that helped you survive, belong, or meet expectations; identify which still serve you; and develop new ways of responding that fit your life now.

What you can expect from me

Our first session is both an intake and an opportunity to experience how I work. I will ask what brings you in, what has and has not helped, and what feels most important right now. We will also explore how your relationships, body, culture, and daily life are shaping what you are experiencing. I tend to be expressive, engaged, and conversational. You can expect thoughtful questions and transparency. I actively seek feedback on how you are feeling about our work. By the end, we will have a better sense of whether my approach feels like the right fit, and identify a few initial priorities. If we decide to continue, we will begin shaping a plan that feels realistic, meaningful, and tailored to you. I want you to leave feeling seen and understood, more hopeful about what can change, and confident that you have a thoughtful partner in the work ahead.
