Great to meet you!

Hi, my name is Mati (pronounced Maddy). I’m glad you’re here—reaching out for support takes courage, and you don’t have to figure things out on your own. I’m a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Maryland, and I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. Before joining Headway, I spent over 10 years working in schools and community settings, supporting clients through transitions, identity questions, and relationship challenges.

I understand what it’s like to go through big changes and figure out who you are. I grew up between Uruguay, Ethiopia, Kenya, the U.S., and France, and I know how both disorienting and enriching it can feel to live across cultures. That experience shapes the way I try to show up as a therapist: open-minded, curious, and always ready to meet you where you are.

I specialize in working with Autistic and neurodivergent adults who were diagnosed later in life. this is a space where you can always ask for exactly what you need. My approach is neurodiversity-affirming, which means I deeply believe all brains are unique and valid. Our work together will never be about fixing, curing, or imitating neurotypical ways of being. Instead, it will be about exploring what feels true, grounding in what feels supportive, and helping you build a life that reflects your values and dreams—in a way that feels sustainable.

I also support Third Culture Kids and the international community who feel stuck in transition—maybe you’ve just moved back to the U.S. after living abroad, or you’re navigating the question of where “home” is, or feeling like you don’t quite belong. You might be successful on paper but still feel overwhelmed or uncertain about what’s next. Therapy can be a place to pause, sort through the noise, and begin building a life that feels true to your values—in a way that feels sustainable.

My approach to therapy

I believe counseling should feel like a conversation where your voice matters most, not a set of instructions about what you “should” do. Everyone comes in with different needs, and if you’re not sure what you need yet, that’s okay—we can figure it out together. Sometimes that means revisiting difficult times in your life, focusing on unhelpful thought patterns, or working on ways to live more in line with your values. Other times it simply means having a supportive place to talk things through.

Our work will always move at your pace. Every counseling technique we consider trying will be something we review together first, and you’ll decide if, when, and how you’d like to try it. I will also ask for feedback throughout the process. If something is helpful, or if something could be adjusted, I want to know—so we can make this work as useful and supportive for you as possible.

What you can expect from me

Clients can expect to take away both practical tools to feel better day to day and a deeper understanding of themselves—who they are outside of other people’s opinions or expectations. Together, we’ll explore what you truly need, what you want out of life, and how to move toward it in a way that feels sustainable. My hope is that you’ll leave sessions not only with strategies you can use right away, but also with a stronger sense of confidence, self-compassion, and clarity about your own path forward.
