Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm Matthew, your individual and couples therapist, specializing in relationships. I'm a licensed counselor, trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy, and deeply curious about people. I find that when we have space, we can learn to be fully alive. Therapy can be that space for you. If you are ready to be curious about yourself, why you do things, and create a life you love, please reach out.

My approach to therapy

I approach therapy believing that the emotional and relational patterns driving our relationships and behaviors need curiosity. Working with me is a lot like deep diving into yourself and figuring out what is there that you haven't seen, don't want to, have ignored, or aren't aware of.

One thing I truly believe is that what we are doing that holds us back started as survival. Whether it's staying distant, shutting down, outbursts, or people pleasing, we adapted to an environment so we could live. Therapy shouldn't feel like a place where we "fix" all of this, but understand it, honor it, and ask if that energy can be used in another way.

What you can expect from me

The first session is simple, I want to know you. What brings you in to therapy, sure, but also what brings you joy, what you care about, the person you see, and the person you'd like to see. After one session, you will probably find you've laughed a bit, feel heard, feel curious about yourself, and find a clearer sense of where you want to go.

I ask a lot of questions, and many clients respond, "That's a really good question." It's intentional; I bring my curiosity and positivity to bear in the room every day. If you say, "I don't know," you will hear me respond, "That's good, that's where we want to be." I believe we do not grow in what we already know, so let's push to the edges of what we know and discover together who you are becoming.
