Hi! My name is Megan Hiner. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Interpersonal and Public Communication from North Carolina State University and my Master's Degree in Clinical Social Work from Florida State University. I have worked in many different settings from social service to street outreach to emergency shelters. I am passionate about social work and all it encompasses.
My approach to therapy focuses on meeting each person I work with where they are at, getting to know them, and tailoring recommendations and treatment methods accordingly. I am very much a "one size DOES NOT fit all" kind of gal. I utilize CBT, EMDR, DBT, Solution Focused, Motivational Interviewing, Strength Based and Systems Based skills and models in my therapy practice (just to name a few).
The first step to taking away anything from therapy is working collaboratively to set realistic goals. This could involve improving communication skills, learning ways to cope with anxiety, or working through current stressors. A few ways that I help and support clients goals are: teaching healthy coping skills, boundary setting, self-esteem building, and providing education to build insight (just to name a few).
