Great to meet you!

Hello! My name is Melissa, and I am a proud Lumbee Native from North Carolina. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with nearly two decades of experience helping individuals navigate life’s most difficult moments. My approach to therapy is deeply influenced by the resilience of my ancestors and the spiritual guidance that has shaped my journey.

Throughout my career, I have provided clinical support in a variety of settings, including working with individuals who are incarcerated. My passion lies in trauma therapy, and I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as well as other evidence-based trauma treatments. I specialize in working with complex trauma, Indigenous Historical and Ancestral Trauma, Survivors Guilt, PTSD, Attachment Trauma, and Post-Traumatic Growth.

I am committed to continuous learning and am currently pursuing my PhD in International Psychology with a trauma specialization at The Chicago School. This allows me to bring a culturally sensitive and informed perspective to my work.

A bit about my approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and deeply rooted in respect for each client’s unique story and cultural background. I believe that healing begins with a strong, trusting relationship, so I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can feel seen and heard.

I specialize in trauma-focused therapy, drawing on evidence-based practices such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and parts work. My experience includes supporting individuals through complex trauma, Indigenous Historical and Ancestral Trauma, Survivors Guilt, PTSD, Attachment Trauma, and Post-Traumatic Growth.

What you can expect from our first session

My sessions focus on fostering resilience, self-awareness, and empowerment, always tailored to each individual’s unique needs.

I strive to create a supportive and culturally sensitive environment where you feel safe, seen, and heard. You can explore your experiences and strengths. Together, we work to build practical coping skills, deepen your understanding of yourself, and support your journey toward healing and growth. My goal is for you to leave each session feeling more resilient, empowered, and confident in your ability to navigate life’s challenges.
