Great to meet you!

In December 2006, I became a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in the state of North Carolina. I have experience working with adults and teenagers with mental health and substance use disorders.

I truly see helping others as a privilege, and my being in the counseling field as a calling from God. As a therapist, my focus is on each patient, meeting them where they are, never imposing my personal beliefs on the individual. I have treated numerous patients, both women and men, from all backgrounds including those with a history of trauma. I also treat a wide range of mental health and addictive disorders. For as long as I can remember I have been told that I help others feel better about themselves. This has not been through offering some grand solution to people's problems, but through a willingness to listen and offer kindness to those in need. I strive to bring this quality into the way I practice counseling.

It is my goal as a therapist to help people help themselves.

My approach to therapy

I view the problems that people have in their lives as developmental in nature. This means that at certain times in a person’s life they can expect to face certain challenges that may require seeking counseling in order to address them.

I approach Mental Health Counseling from a Person-Centered and Cognitive Behavioral orientation. I approach Substance Use Counseling from a Motivational Interviewing and Harm Reduction orientation. I believe that you have the right to choose what is best for you. As the client you will be able to direct the course of your treatment. You will also set your own goals for the counseling process and will be allowed to determine what services you need to meet your goals. During your sessions you will be treated with the respect and unconditional positive regard without judgment of what you “should” or “should not” do. I am here to listen and help you discover resources within yourself, through personal relationships, and in the community in a way that best meets your personal needs.

This approach requires that you be honest as we discuss your needs. Remember your goals and objectives will be the focal point of our session.
