Beginning therapy can feel like a big step, and it is completely normal to feel nervous, uncertain, or even a little overwhelmed. My goal is to make your first session as comfortable and welcoming as possible.
During our first meeting, we will spend time getting to know one another and discussing what brings you to therapy. You will have the opportunity to share your concerns, challenges, goals, and any important life experiences that may be affecting your current situation. There is no expectation that you tell your entire story in one session. We will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
I will ask questions to better understand your emotional well-being, relationships, family history, strengths, coping strategies, and the specific issues you would like to address. This conversation helps me gain a clearer picture of your experiences and allows us to begin identifying meaningful treatment goals together.
Equally important, the first session is an opportunity for you to determine whether I am the right therapist for you. I encourage questions about my approach, treatment methods, experience, and what therapy may look like moving forward.
By the end of our session, you can expect to have a better understanding of the therapeutic process, a preliminary plan for treatment, and some initial ideas about the goals we will work toward together. Most importantly, I want you to leave feeling heard, respected, and hopeful about the possibility of positive change.
Therapy is a collaborative process. You are the expert on your life, and I bring years of professional experience to help guide, support, and encourage you as we work toward your goals. Whether you are seeking support for yourself, your child, or your family, I look forward to partnering with you on your journey toward healing, growth, and greater well-being.
