Great to meet you!

I'm Mónica Grey, a bilingual therapist working with adults in English and Spanish. I specialize in insomnia and sleep difficulties, and I also support people navigating anxiety, stress, and trauma. I hold a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Johns Hopkins University and completed training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) through Stanford Medicine’s SHIP program. I'm licensed in Maryland and Virginia.

Originally from Colombia, I understand how culture, family expectations, and the experience of starting over in a new country can shape the way we seek support. In our work together, there's room for those parts of your story. You don't need to have everything figured out before we begin.

My approach to therapy

My approach is warm, collaborative, and practical. I listen closely, offer honest feedback, and make room for humor when it fits. Together, we'll explore what's keeping you stuck, recognize the strengths you already bring, and find changes that feel realistic for your life.

I draw on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and person-centered therapy, adapting our work to your needs and goals. For insomnia, I use CBT-I to address the thoughts and habits that can keep sleep difficult. I’ll explain the reasoning behind what we try, and we'll check in about how it's working for you. Your experience, culture, and feedback help guide the process.

What you can expect from me

Our first session is a chance to get to know each other and understand what brings you to therapy. We'll talk about what's been difficult, what's helped before, and what you'd like to change. You don't need to prepare a perfect explanation or share everything at once.

I'll ask questions about your history and daily life, make room for your questions, and explain how we might work together. If sleep is your main concern, we'll explore your sleep patterns and how they're affecting your days. Together, we'll begin setting goals and outlining next steps, with space for your preferences and feedback.
