Great to meet you!

I earned my PhD in Clinical and Community Psychology and I have over 6 years of experience in the mental health field. I am also a Spoken Word Poet, Author, Leadership and Culture Change Consultant, and Researcher with over 12 years of experience supporting the success and wellness of marginalized populations within academic, nonprofit, and government fields. As an African Centered Clinical and Community Psychologist, I specialize in providing individual psychotherapy, group therapy/support groups, research, and consultation supporting the wellness of marginalized groups and Black communities.

My approach to therapy

All of my clients start in Group Therapy (I also refer to it as a healing circle) as a part of a step-wise care model, which matches service intensity to an individual's needs, starting with less intensive interventions and escalating to more intensive care as needed.

Copy and paste the below link into your browser for a 4 minute video description of my group therapy, Defining & Divining Me:

If an individual later presents with an acute need, requiring more intensive one-on-one attention, then I will work with the client to schedule individual therapy sessions for set number of sessions in addition to the healing circle. Clients may, for example, have a bi-weekly individual session, then on the off week, attend the healing circle to continue weekly care.

My healing circles include brief psychoeducation, space for group members to share in-depth about their experiences and insights, meaningful skill-building, as well as time to practice those skills together. Groups may conclude and open with wellness activities that the therapist encourages members to complete at home or outside of group to empower members to take control of their healing journey.

My Training and Orientation:

As a psychotherapist, I have been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Unified Protocol (UP). I also train in and practice African Centered Psychology with an applied anti-oppressive framework. Within my framework, I work to ensure my clients have the support to fully explore their identities and know who they are, acknowledge their expert status on their lives, and come into their power. The ultimate goal is to tap into your natural ability to self-heal and self-actualize while unveiling, navigating, and disentangling from oppressive systems.

What you can expect from me

I integrate African Centered Psychology, holistic evidence based practices, the arts, and client interests to curate a tailored healing experience for each client. Clients should expect to walk away from sessions feeling more enlightened about their identities, conditions, and skills; and empowered to take back their lives with inspired action.
