Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Najla Wortham. For over 20 years, I’ve supported people through life transitions, emotional struggles, and the everyday pressures of balancing work, family, and personal responsibilities. I’m a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Howard University and a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Bowie State University. I believe therapy should be a space where you can show up exactly as you are, without fear of judgment or expectations. My approach is warm, down-to-earth, and collaborative. I value genuine conversations, building trust, and helping people recognize their strengths while working through what may be holding them back. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, experiencing stress, struggling with relationships, or simply looking for a space to focus on yourself, my goal is to help you feel heard, supported, and empowered to make meaningful changes. Taking the first step toward therapy isn't always easy, and you don't have to have everything figured out before you begin. Sometimes, just having a safe space to talk is where the healing starts.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is warm, genuine, and collaborative, and I draw on a few tools depending on what you need. I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you examine the thoughts and patterns that keep stress or anxiety running on a loop, and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) to help you slow down and stay grounded in the moment. For clients working through a life transition or a shift in how they see themselves, I also use Narrative Therapy to help you make sense of your story and recognize your own strengths along the way. I believe building a trusting relationship is one of the most important parts of the process, so I take the time to understand where you are in life, what's important to you, and what you hope to gain from therapy. My style is conversational, supportive, and solution-focused: I meet you where you are while gently helping you explore new perspectives and make meaningful changes. I enjoy working with people navigating stress, anxiety, relationship challenges, self-esteem, life transitions, and the demands of balancing personal and professional responsibilities. Ultimately, my goal is for you to leave our sessions feeling heard, better equipped to navigate life's challenges, and more confident in your ability to create the life you want for yourself.

What you can expect from me

My goal is to create a warm, welcoming, and judgment-free space where you feel comfortable showing up as your authentic self. I believe therapy should feel like a genuine conversation, where you are heard, supported, and encouraged to grow at your own pace.

I take a collaborative and individualized approach, working with you to identify what matters most and establish realistic, meaningful goals. Whether that means learning to manage stress and anxiety, building confidence, establishing healthier boundaries, improving relationships, or navigating a major life transition, I want you to walk away with practical tools and a better understanding of yourself.

I also believe that growth sometimes requires us to step outside of our comfort zones. While I will always lead with compassion and understanding, I am not afraid to gently challenge you to look at things differently, recognize patterns, and explore opportunities for change.

Ultimately, my hope is that therapy helps you feel more confident, emotionally balanced, and empowered to navigate life's challenges. Success looks different for everyone, and we will work together to define what that means for you. My goal isn't for you to stay in therapy forever, but to help you develop the tools, confidence, and self-awareness to thrive beyond our sessions.
