Great to meet you!

I'm Dr. Ngozi Nnaji, a board-certified psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner and the provider at Mindhealth Behavioral PLLC in Charlotte, NC. I hold a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and am dual-certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C) and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC). My training in both family and psychiatric care lets me look at the whole person: your mental health, your physical health, and how the two affect each other. I treat adults with depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, OCD, sleep problems, and other mood disorders. I also do dementia work-ups and ongoing care for people facing memory or cognitive changes, and I support their families along the way. I see patients in person in Charlotte and by telehealth across North Carolina.

My approach to therapy

I believe good psychiatric care starts with listening. I take time to understand your history, your symptoms, and what matters most to you, and then we build a treatment plan together. You are always part of the decision.

My practice focuses on thorough psychiatric evaluation and careful medication management. I start with the lowest effective dose, explain what to expect from any medication, and adjust based on how you're actually feeling, not just a checklist. Because I'm also trained in family medicine, I pay attention to physical health factors, lab work, and other medications that can affect mood, sleep, and focus. When you need support beyond medication, like therapy, case management, or a specialist, I help coordinate referrals so you aren't navigating it alone. My goal is to create a respectful, judgment-free space where you feel heard.

What you can expect from me

Your first visit is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, usually about 45 minutes. We'll talk about what brought you in, your current symptoms, your mental and physical health history, past treatments and medications, and your goals. I may recommend lab work if it could help us understand what's going on.

By the end of the session, you'll have a clear picture of my initial assessment and a starting plan. That plan may include medication, referrals, or next steps for further evaluation. We'll also schedule a follow-up to check how things are going. You're welcome to ask questions at any point, and you should leave feeling like you have a plan and a partner in your care.
