My first session with clients is where I can begin building a therapeutic relationship. During this session, I will take time to understand my client concerns, what led them to seek care and how their symptoms are affecting their daily lives. I will review with them their medical, psychiatric, and social history, discuss any previous treatment or medication, and explore factors that may be contributing to their current challenges. This comprehensive assessment allows me to gain a clear understanding of their unique needs and strengths. Together we will establish a meaningful treatment goals and develop an individualized care plan tailored to their preferences and circumstances. If medication is recommended, I will explain the available options, expected benefits, potential risks, and possible side effect so they can make informed decisions about their treatment. I value collaboration and encourage them to ask questions and share their thoughts throughout the visit. By the end of the session, they can expect to have a better understanding of their symptoms, a clear treatment plan and practical next steps. My goal is for them to leave feeling listened to, respected and confident that we are working together to support their mental health and overall wellbeing.
