Great to meet you!

I am a board-certified psychiatrist and internist with broad experience in psychiatric conditions. I especially enjoy working with patients with treatment-resistant psychiatric conditions or those with comorbid chronic medical conditions.

After serving for 24 years in the military, I have become an expert in treating individuals with trauma, addiction, anxiety, mood, and severe mental health conditions such as bipolar, schizophrenia, personality disorder,s and OCD.

I welcome women planning on becoming pregnant or concerns during or postpartum. I will aim to optimize the symptoms while minimizing risk to the fetus or the newborn.

I find my work especially meaningful when I work with LGBTQ+ and minority groups, as well as the veteran population.

My prior experiences have included outpatient psychiatry, inpatient psychiatry, running large psychiatric prevention programs, serving as the service chief of a residential addiction treatment facility, serving as the training director for the largest psychiatric training program in the DoD, as well as the Director of Graduate Medical Education, overseeing training of over 650 physician trainees. As an internist, I have served as a primary care provider and worked as an inpatient medicine attending physician, caring for medically ill patients.

I have been doing virtual psychiatric care since 2018. I have been practicing psychiatry and medicine since 2009.

I continue to teach medical students and other trainees and have ongoing active research projects on topics related to trauma and suicide prevention.

A bit about my approach to therapy

I believe in the Bio-Psycho-Social model. It's the 3-legged "stool". The biology is managing their medications, but the psychology (self-esteem, one's identity, sense of purpose), and the sociology (relationships, work, contribution to society) cannot be neglected.

What you can expect from our first session

I aim to maximize my patients' autonomy. They will feel heard and provided the space to communicate their priorities in the treatment setting. I will try to take the complexity and help the patient act with simplicity to help them reach their health-related goals.

In addition to medications, my appointments are 30 minutes in duration, and I conduct psychotherapy with them during this time.

*** Not all of my schedule and openings are listed here, so please feel free to reach out to me and provide me with dates and times to help find a better appointment time, if needed. ***
