Great to meet you!

I am Dr. Roslynn Scott-Adams, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-C) with a PhD in Social Work and more than 30 years of experience providing behavioral healthcare and social services in the Washington, D.C. metro area. I founded The Center for Authentic Living out of a deep belief that every person deserves a compassionate space to heal and grow. I specialize in working with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and major life transitions — and I bring both the clinical expertise and genuine warmth needed to help you move forward. As a professor of social work at The Catholic University of America, I remain grounded in the latest research and best practices so my clients always receive evidence-informed care.

My approach to therapy

I believe in meeting you exactly where you are. My approach weaves together evidence-based methods — including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and strength-based principles — tailored to your unique situation and goals. I work collaboratively with you to identify the thought patterns and life circumstances that may be keeping you stuck, and together we develop practical strategies for creating meaningful, lasting change. Working from a culturally responsive, client-centered approach, I honor the full context of your identity and lived experiences — including how culture, community, and systems shape your mental health and wellbeing.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, my goal is simply for you to feel heard and at ease. We'll spend time getting to know each other — I'll ask about what has brought you to therapy, what's been weighing on you, and what you're hoping to achieve. There's no pressure to share everything at once; we move at whatever pace feels right for you. By the end of our first meeting, you'll have a clear sense of how we'll work together and what our next steps look like. My hope is that you leave feeling supported, hopeful, and confident that you've found the right partner for your journey.
