Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm Sara Scott Ford, LCMHC, and I graduated from UNC-Wilmington with a B.A. in Psychology and East Carolina University with an M.S. in Counseling. If your current struggles make you feel like you're treading water in the middle of the ocean, you may be feeling overwhelmed with worry, fear, sadness, anger, guilt, frustration, uncertainty, hopelessness, or helplessness. You may also be experiencing sleepless nights and disturbing negative thoughts that just won't seem to go away. You feel stuck - unable to move forward or swim back to shore. Whether these struggles stem from anxiety, stress, depression, PTSD, a significant life change, a serious tragedy, or a traumatic life event, I am here to help you find your way back.

My approach to therapy

I specialize in working with individuals (civilian & military) who have experienced a significant life-changing event, trauma, or narcissism. Using evidence-based treatments, such as EMDR therapy & CBT, I will help you develop the coping mechanisms and skills needed in order for you to be able to solve your problems independently and for you to feel whole again. Everyone has a unique story and deserves an individualized approach to care. Once we decide to work together, we’ll act as partners in your therapeutic journey. It’s important to me that we communicate openly and you feel respected in our relationship. I’ll be there to listen to you, challenge you, and support you along the way.

What you can expect from me

I always start with an introductory session, where you’ll have the opportunity to share your story and what you hope to achieve in therapy. We’ll work together to figure this out! I strive to create a warm, welcoming environment that allows you to feel comfortable sharing and being vulnerable, while also feeling secure. From there, we’ll work together in the sessions that follow to make these goals a reality for you.
