Great to meet you!

For over twenty years, I have worked in the counseling field primarily as a counselor educator and supervisor and I have five years' experience as a clinician. I am especially skilled in working with those in emerging adulthood and I have specialized in African American women's identity development around relationships, work, and stress. I consider clients the experts in their lives. I honor their values, beliefs, and identity and conduct therapy with culture and context in mind.

My approach to therapy

My orientation to counseling is very humanistic and person-centered. I use my experience and resources to support individuals in their pursuit of healthy lives that match their values. I believe culture and context matter and can be valuable tools to understanding a client and in helping the client achieve identified goals. However, I frequently employ mother-wit to the process and believe that there is no substitute for hard-earned wisdom.

What you can expect from me

In the first session, we will focus on what you want from the experience of counseling, who you are, your understanding of counseling, and determining whether your expectations match what I am able to provide. We will also review logistics of the process and be sure you understand what my services are and what your role is in the counseling process. Our relationship is the most important part of this process.
