Great to meet you!

I'm Sean Stallworth, a licensed clinical social worker with over a decade of experience and a military background that shapes how I show up for the people I work with. I founded Perfecting Peace Inside Counseling Services (PICS) because I believe that once you find real peace — the kind that isn't contingent on everything going right — you start making decisions from a completely different place. I have a particular heart for the African American community, especially Black men and teens who've been told, directly or indirectly, that what they're feeling isn't something you talk about. It is. And you can. I'm fully telehealth in Michigan, so wherever you are in the state, we can connect.

My approach to therapy

My approach is direct but relaxed — more like a real conversation than a formal clinical session. I draw on CBT, trauma-informed care, cognitive processing therapy, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused methods, but I tailor everything to what actually fits the person in front of me. I'm big on SMART goals because I believe clarity matters. I want you to be able to name what you're working toward, not just talk around it. At the same time, I let the process be organic — I'm not checking boxes or racing through an agenda. I'm listening. Really listening. The goal is always to get to the root of what's driving the patterns, not just manage the symptoms on the surface.

What you can expect from me

The first session is mostly about getting to know each other. I'm going to ask you questions — about what brought you in, what's going on, what you want your life to actually look like — and I want real answers, not what you think I want to hear. There's no pressure to have everything organized or figured out before we start. You can come as you are. By the end, you'll have a clearer sense of what we're going to work on together and why. Most people leave feeling a little lighter just from having said things out loud to someone who's actually listening. That's a good start.
