Great to meet you!

Hello, I’m Shelia Ransom Jenkins, MSW, LCSW, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with extensive experience supporting adolescents, adults, couples, and families through life’s challenges. I offer a compassionate, trauma-informed, and client-centered approach to therapy, creating a safe space where individuals feel heard, supported, and empowered.

I hold a Master of Social Work and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice, and my professional background includes work in community mental health, educational settings, and clinical leadership roles. I have experience helping clients manage anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, relationship and family conflict, behavioral concerns, life transitions, and stress related to work, school, and personal growth. I also have specialized training in perinatal mental health, supporting individuals experiencing postpartum depression and related mood disorders.

My therapeutic approach integrates evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), trauma-informed care, and strengths-based interventions, tailored to each client’s unique needs and goals. I believe therapy is most effective when it is collaborative, practical, and rooted in trust.

Whether you are feeling overwhelmed, navigating a difficult transition, or seeking deeper self-understanding, my goal is to support you with empathy, clarity, and encouragement as you work toward healing and lasting change.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is collaborative, compassionate, and trauma-informed. I believe therapy works best when clients feel safe, respected, and actively involved in their healing process. I meet clients where they are while helping them gain insight, build practical coping skills, and move toward meaningful change.

I use a strengths-based framework and integrate evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and trauma-informed interventions, tailoring treatment to each client’s unique needs, goals, and lived experiences.

I specialize in working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, relationship challenges, life transitions, and perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, including postpartum depression. I hold a certification in Perinatal Mental Health and completed my training through Postpartum Support International (PSI), which allows me to provide informed, compassionate care during pregnancy and the postpartum period.

In sessions, I balance empathy with gentle, honest guidance, offering both emotional support and practical tools clients can use outside of therapy. My goal is to help clients build self-awareness, emotional regulation skills, and resilience so they can create lasting change both in and out of session.

What you can expect from me

In your first session, clients can expect a welcoming, supportive, and judgment-free environment where the focus is on understanding their concerns, experiences, and goals. I take time to get to know you—what brought you to therapy, what’s been challenging, and what you hope to gain from our work together.

We’ll talk about your personal history, current stressors, strengths, and any symptoms you may be experiencing, at a pace that feels comfortable for you. My goal is not to overwhelm you, but to help you feel heard, supported, and grounded from the very beginning.

Together, we’ll begin identifying clear, realistic goals for therapy and discuss what progress might look like for you. This may include improving emotional regulation, reducing anxiety or depressive symptoms, strengthening relationships, developing healthy boundaries, or building coping skills you can use outside of session.

I strive to create a space that feels safe, collaborative, and respectful, where questions are encouraged and therapy feels like a partnership. By the end of the first session, most clients leave with a better understanding of themselves, a sense of direction, and at least one practical takeaway to support them between sessions.
