Great to meet you!

Hello, I’m Stephanie Cunningham, LMSW, a licensed clinical social worker and founder of Discovering New Chapters Therapy Services.

I earned my Master of Social Work (MSW) and have professional experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families across clinical, child welfare, and community-based settings. These experiences have strengthened my understanding of how family dynamics, trauma, loss, relationships, environmental stressors, and major life changes can affect our emotional well-being.

My areas of focus include anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma, stress management, self-esteem, emotional regulation, family challenges, and life transitions. I have a particular passion for working with individuals who have spent so much time caring for others, managing responsibilities, or simply trying to hold everything together that they have had little opportunity to focus on themselves.

I created Discovering New Chapters Therapy Services around a simple belief: difficult experiences may become part of your story, but they do not have to determine how the rest of your story is written. Therapy can provide the space to process what has happened, understand yourself differently, develop healthier ways of coping, and move forward with greater confidence and purpose.

Healing. Growing. Learning. One Chapter at a Time.

My approach to therapy

I work collaboratively with my clients and believe that you are the expert on your own life. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, I want to understand the experiences behind them, what you have been through, how you learned to cope, what is happening in your life now, and what you would like to change.

My style is supportive and conversational while still being purposeful. Therapy with me may include exploring patterns, processing emotions and experiences, identifying triggers, challenging unhelpful thoughts, developing coping and emotional regulation skills, setting healthy boundaries, strengthening communication, and learning to respond differently to situations that may have previously felt overwhelming.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is about getting to know you not expecting you to tell your entire life story in one appointment.

We will talk about what brought you to therapy, what has been happening in your life, any concerns or symptoms you are experiencing, and what you hope will be different as a result of therapy. I will also ask questions about your background, relationships, support system, strengths, and previous experiences that may help me better understand you as a whole person.

Together, we will begin identifying your goals for therapy and discussing what our work might look like moving forward.
