Great to meet you!

I received My Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health Science because I care so much about the Earth and the creatures that inhabit it. But I soon realized that if I was not interacting with people (or animals) that the work I was doing seemed irrelevant.

Then caring for my terminally ill stepmother led me first towards nursing, then to Social Work.

Since getting my MSW, I have worked In a wide variety of settings ranging from domestic violence shelters to a medical hospital to a homeless day center. I believe that despite our varied backgrounds and beliefs, we are all good at the core and want to be physically and emotionally healthy in order to make the most of our lives. Some of us have learned bad habits by being told, or telling ourselves, that certain things are not possible or us and that is rarely the case.

My approach to therapy

I use an eclectic approach to therapy that mostly focuses on elements from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and I am gradually starting to incorporate elements of Internal Family Systems (IFS). While those are all big and fancy words, what it comes down to is finding the truth that we have always known, sometimes buried deep within us, and bringing that back to life whether it is our essential goodness, our ability to share emotions or to let go of an upsetting past event.

What you can expect from me

I want to get to know you and what your issues or areas of concern are as you see them. I also like to get a full picture of the other elements in your life: work, your hobbies, important people, notable past events and your family of origin.
