Great to meet you!

Prior to opening my private practice Cypress Counseling and Wellness, I worked as a social worker and then as a therapist for nonprofits for over 15 years. I have specialized in supporting survivors of intimate partner abuse, sex trafficking, and childhood adverse experiences. I have experience in working with youth involved in the juvenile justice system, youth who have witnessed violence in the home, and youth in the foster care system. Through working with populations that have endured ongoing, complex traumas, I have developed a strong foundation in treating clients who experience symptoms of dissociation and dissociative disorders.

My approach to therapy

Oftentimes, we as humans work to break intergenerational cycles, only to fall right back into the patterns that we worked so hard to get away from in the first place. This is a heartbreaking reality of attachment-related trauma. One of my passions is to help clients shift these patterns and move into a space where they feel more connected to themselves within, others around them, and to the values that shape their identity.

I use a combination of structural dissociation (parts work), eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR), and attachment-focused therapy models. I am certified in EMDR and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT). One way that I differ from many other therapists is that I believe good therapeutic work can be done even when a client is continuing to endure unsafe living situations and relationships – even though that work may have to look a little different and move at a modified pace.

What you can expect from me

In the first session, I hope to gain a wholistic picture of why a client is seeking therapy at this particular point in time, without jumping to pathologizing.
