Great to meet you!

I have a Master's in Social Work with a license in both clinical and macro practice. I have been working with parents and youth in various capacities since 2005, guided by a strengths-based philosophy. I also practice using the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) and Strengthening Families Protective Factors philosophical lenses. I am a survivor of ACE, as well. Additionally, I have expertise in providing evidence-based trauma-informed interventions to military families. My goal is to provide quality therapeutic services to my clients. Services provided cover a broad range, including but not limited to childhood trauma, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, adjustment disorder, anger management, and family services.

My approach to therapy

I strive to create a comfortable, therapeutic environment in which a safe, collaborative relationship between client and therapist can be established. I am an active listener. As a therapist, I do not have the power to "fix" problems; that power lies within you. I work to uncover this power through your counseling experience. For counseling to be effective, you must commit to the process by being an active participant. Your involvement, both during and after sessions, is required. It is important to realize there are risks involved with any counseling. You may feel worse before you feel better and experience uncomfortable feelings, such as anger, fear, and frustration. It is not possible to guarantee counseling outcomes. I do guarantee a safe and confidential environment.

What you can expect from me

The first session will involve a comprehensive evaluation of your needs, psychosocial functioning, history, strengths, family support, medical information, treatment history, and health and safety assessment. By the end of the evaluation, I will be able to offer some initial impressions of what our session will include. At that point, we will discuss your treatment goals and create an initial treatment plan. Psychotherapy has both benefits and risks. Risk may include experiencing uncomfortable feelings, such as sadness, guilt, anxiety, anger, frustration, loneliness, and helplessness, because the process of psychotherapy often requires discussing unpleasant aspects of your life. However, psychotherapy has been shown to have benefits for individuals who undertake it.

Therapy often leads to a significant reduction in feelings of distress, increased satisfaction in interpersonal relationships, greater personal awareness and insight, increased skills for managing stress, and resolution of specific problems. But there are no guarantees about what will happen. Psychotherapy requires a very active effort on your part. To be most successful, you will need to work on things you disclosed during sessions but that fall outside our sessions.
