Great to meet you!

Sometimes life takes us down roads we never expected, and those experiences can shape who we become. Hi, my name is Tamra James. I am a licensed Professional Counselor and an EMDR Clinician. Hi, I'm Tamra James, a Licensed Professional Counselor and EMDR clinician. I earned my Master's degree in counseling from Liberty University in 2021 and have over 3 years of counseling experience, including my work as a counselor candidate. I am married to my husband of 20 years. We have a blended family with 5 children and 6 grandchildren. I began my counseling career later in life, so I have experienced varied traumas and griefs in my lifetime which have shaped me into a compassionate, caring counselor. I help people of all ages from 13 to 99 with grief, loss, relationship issues, anxiety, panic, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, attention-deficit-hyperactivity disorder, trauma, stress, abuse, domestic violence, behavioral, and self-worth issues on an individual, family, and couple basis. I use a person-centered approach with concepts of EMDR, CBT, DBT and talk therapy tailored to fit each client. I am a Christian. I love my Lord Jesus, and I will use Bible principles upon your request. I want to help you process your trauma and grow into your best self. But you need to take the first step on your journey to improve your mental health by making an appointment with me. I am available by Telehealth only.

My approach to therapy

My approach is caring, compassionate, and person-centered because I believe every person's story deserves to be heard. I use a combination of EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and talk therapy, tailoring our sessions to your unique experiences and needs. Together, we may work on processing painful memories, understanding unhelpful thought patterns, building coping skills, and learning healthier ways to manage difficult emotions. My own life experiences have taught me that healing is not always easy or straightforward, and I want you to know that you do not have to walk through it alone. I am also a Christian who loves the Lord Jesus, and I am happy to incorporate Biblical principles into our sessions if that is something you desire. Above all, I want our work together to be a place of understanding, encouragement, and meaningful growth.

What you can expect from me

Our first meeting is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin building a relationship based on trust, compassion, and understanding. If you choose a brief 15-minute introductory session, we can meet, talk about what you are looking for, and determine whether we are a good fit. During a full intake session, which typically takes about 11⁄2 to 2 hours, we will review your personal history, complete any necessary assessments, discuss your concerns, and begin developing a treatment plan with goals that are meaningful to you. I want you to feel comfortable asking questions and sharing your story at your own pace. My hope is that you leave feeling heard, supported, and encouraged about the journey ahead. I offer counseling through telehealth, and I would be honored to walk alongside you as you work toward healing.
