Great to meet you!

Welcome. I’m Dr. Tawnya H. Brown, a clinically licensed social worker based in Maryland and licensed to practice in MD, DC, and VA. For over 28 years, I have supported individuals and families through life’s most difficult and meaningful transitions, with a special focus on working with families, youth, and young adults.

Reaching out for support is one of the most important steps you can take as you begin a new chapter in your life. Whether you are dealing with depression, trauma, major life changes, difficult transitions, challenging relationship decisions, self-esteem or self-worth concerns, or simply feeling that the way you are managing life is not helping you move toward a better place, you do not have to walk through it alone.

I am here to walk alongside you with compassion, understanding, and hope. Together, we can work toward healing, clarity, and growth—and get to the other side of this stronger, healthier, and with renewed hope.

My approach to therapy

My therapy style is rooted in compassionate talk therapy that is warm, open-minded, and collaborative. I create a safe and supportive space where clients can speak honestly, feel heard, and explore what may be keeping them stuck. My approach is strengths-based, trauma-informed, and person-centered, helping individuals and families gain clarity, build confidence, strengthen relationships, and move toward healing at a pace that feels right for them. I bring warmth, energy, and practical insight into sessions so that clients feel supported, challenged when needed, and empowered to take meaningful steps toward change.

What you can expect from me

In your first session, you can expect us to spend time getting to know one another in a safe, supportive, and judgment-free space. I will do a lot of listening, giving you room to share what brought you to therapy, what you have been carrying, and what you hope will begin to change. Together, we will talk about the outcomes or goals you desire and begin identifying goals we can set collaboratively. Along the way, we will also start exploring strategies and steps that can support your healing, growth, and movement toward a better place.
