Great to meet you!

Great to meet you! I'm a bilingual (Spanish/English) and bicultural second generation Latino from Puerto Rican descent. I work with individuals, couples, and men navigating marital and premarital challenges, spirituality, domestic violence, anger management, anxiety, family conflict, and parenting issues. I have extensive experience working with couples and men. I do not work with single female clients but I will work with couples together. I also have extensive expertise working with domestic violence and sex offender perpetrators.

I have two master's degrees, one in Public Administration/Human Services (1989) and another in Marriage and Family Therapy (2017). My experience includes work as a Foster Care Social Worker, Child Protective Services Worker, Juvenile Delinquency Counselor, Guardian Ad Litem, Housing Services Case Management Counselor, and Domestic Violence & Sex Offender Group and Individual counseling. This background has given me a deep understanding of the complexities people face and the courage it takes to seek help.

I am a Christ-centered therapist who believes that treatment must include emotional, physical, psychological, as well as spiritual interventions. My therapy will be transparent, confrontive, honest, and inquisitive. I tend to say things as I see them, that way you will know where I stand. I will never impose anything on you, but I do believe in being direct and real with my clients.

My approach to therapy

I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in my practice, along with Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Family Systems, Person-Centered and Christ-Centered approaches. I also focus on strengths-based perspective as it relates to your concerns. We will look at how your thoughts affect your emotions, behaviors and experience. I'll help you learn how to "hold every thought captive" and to push back against those thoughts with the goal of changing your feelings, thinking and behavior for the better.

My commitment to you is to maintain your confidentiality, within the boundaries of the law, while providing a Christ-centered approach and commitment to your growth and change. It's never about me but always about you. Together we'll build practical tools to help you move forward.

What you can expect from me

In your first session, we'll explore what brought you to therapy and then decide the most appropriate ways to help you make progress. I'll ask questions to understand your concerns, your goals, and what you're hoping will change. To are my teacher, you teach me about yourself. I do not make assumptions. You can expect me to be honest, direct, and transparent with you from day one.

My goal is for you to leave our first session with clarity about where we're headed and confidence that you have someone in your corner who will tell you the truth, challenge your perspectives and support your growth every step of the way.
