Great to meet you!

Hi Friends, My name is Marieann (pronounced Maryann) and I am a trauma-informed licensed clinical social worker, graduated with an MSW in 2017 from the University of Maryland School of Social work. Together we will explore your thoughts and feelings as parts of you that deserve curiosity and compassion. Treating depression, anxiety, and PTSD symptoms with curiosity and non-judgement will help validate our feelings and process them so you stop carrying all these burdens and experience a sense of inner peace.

My approach to therapy

I am a warm, friendly, non-judgemental clinician and I mostly use the following therapeutic modalities: Parts Work (like, Internal Family Systems therapy, I received my training from teachers and courses outside the IFS Institute), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (Where we look at evidence and facts to support a positive outlook on life), Solution Focused Therapy (where we outline goals and work backwards to achieve them), psychodynamic therapy (where we talk about your life and I ask open ended questions helping things unfold and process in your internal system, and Emotional Freedom Technique (tapping, where we tap on 11 meridian points on our body to reduce activated symptoms).

What you can expect from me

The first session is an intake therefore, it will feel like an interview, I will ask a bunch of questions exploring what is bringing you to therapy, your history, and your goals for therapy. Subsequent sessions will involve exploring thoughts and feelings as individual parts in a mosaic of parts that make up your personality. We will explore your inner world with non-judgement and curiosity, and see how those parts came to be, and what you needed to heal the pains and burdens that live in your mind and body. The exploration can involve closing your eyes and visualizing your inner tableau of parts and your core self. We we will also use somatic tools like tapping, hugging ourselves and massaging our face when our body needs those physically soothing techniques. Ultimately our goal will be to reduce your negative symptoms so that you can feel inner peace and make decisions based on joy and open-mindedness rather than fear.
